ELENA HOSKYNS-ABRAHALL (b. 1998) lives and works in London. Hoskyns-Abrahall achieved their BA Fine Art Sculpture from Camberwell College of Art, First Class Honours (2019) and MA Sculpture from Royal College of Art (2023). They are the beneficiary of The Gilbert Bayes Award in association with the Royal College of Art Sculpture Programme.
Edinburgh born Hoskyns-Abrahall is a non-binary artist whose sculpture and performance based practice uses storytelling to address themes of gender, identity politics and queer theory. Taking objects synonymous with contentious tropes of adolescence, the artist transforms them into embodiments of desire using precious materials and casting processes. Hoskyns-Abrahall practice reveals the beauty and vulnerability of being in a state of flux. Looking at the world through the lens of abjection, Elena uses this as tool for exploring their human experience. Whether it be through objects or performance, the bodily and the repulsive become excellent tools for exploring the dysphoric nature of the human condition. Through the eyes of the transgender experience, Hoskyns-Abrahall isolates and amplifies little pockets of beauty through works symptomatic of something that is desperately desired as opposed to merely endured.
